Project Description

McKinley School was a rehabilitation of a former Normandy School District elementary school that was originally built in 1937 by William B. Ittner. A majority of the school’s layout has remained, but it received new energy-efficient windows, plumbing fixtures, HVAC, finishes, and electrical throughout in preparation for a new education-based tenant. The intent of the rehabilitation was to house a youth hub/community center and/or a satellite campus for continuing education. Many of the original features were preserved, including the water fountain tile murals, the decorative animal window grille at the front facade, and the gymnasium’s wooden stage.
