Project Description

Housed in the historic International Shoe Factory, Shoe Factory Lofts serves the established and continually growing need of Missouri State University to house its full-time student population. The 60,000-square-foot development includes 211 beds of loft-style student housing in 48 apartment suites. Converting the two existing buildings of the factory required a creative design approach to maximize the efficiency of the adaptive reuse. Atriums were cut into the center of each building in order to provide a common amenity space as well as bring natural light into each unit. The result is a very efficient floor plan design, fully compliant with historic tax credit guidelines, that provides a variety of living, studying, and socialization opportunities for the students residents.
